ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Oral cancer is a common cancer of global concern. This year over 5,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with oral cavity cancer and 1,500 Canadians will die from it. Tobacco and alcohol are the most important risk factors for oral cancer.

Visual oral screening by a dentist and registered dental hygienist is critical in the early detection of oral cancer. Our professionals will look for unusual growth or lumps on the lips, tongue, cheeks and entire oral cavity. Other signs and symptoms to be observed are white or red patches on the inside of the cheeks, thickening of the inner cheek lining, bleeding, swelling, pain, slurred speech, numbness and loss of sensation.

Routine bi-annual screening by our dental professionals is a vital component of the services we provide.
