Visiting the dentist should always be a pleasant experience but sadly this isn’t always the case. Firstly, if you ever experience any type of pain while at the dentist (besides the pain you may be experiencing which caused you to see the dentist in the first place) there may be an issue. The job of a dentist is to help you achieve a cleaner and healthier smile, while being able to tend to your specific needs.
Proper dental-chair side manner is just as important as the skills used to clean teeth. A Sarnia dentist has published a book on the importance of this particular topic. “Interacting with patients is huge,” said Dr. Adam Lubus. The 28-year old, graduate from Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry decided to write his book, “Are You Socially Awkward?,” he said, to fill the few months he had between finishing his clinical requirements for school and graduation in June of 2015. The 27-page, self-published electronic book is a general how-to manual with tips and advice on things like confidence, humour, smiling, body language and eye-contact, said the author — who wrote under the pen name A.J. Subul. But it also touches on how to engage with patients, something with which, Lubus said, some of his classmates at university struggled.“Some of them, the book smarts, they’re geniuses,” he said.“But talking to people and explaining all the options … it really challenged some of my classmates.””
It may not seem like an important aspect of the overall dental experience, but good dental chair side manner is something that can make the difference between a good dental exam and a great one.
